Whats New at Terrace Dining Hall

Welcome back!

Over winter break, Terrace Dining Hall has been working hard to create some exciting new additions. If you have been in Terrace Dining Hall yet this semester, you have probably noticed a new food station called Simple Servings.

Simple Servings is our new addition to Terrace Dining Hall. This new station always serves healthy, well-balanced meals for students.  However, what makes Simple Servings even better is the fact that their meals are always allergen and gluten free.  The station provides safe and appetizing meals that will never be made with peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, wheat, soy, milk products, eggs or gluten.  It is 100% safe for anyone with these food allergies.

Food allergies affect about 5% of the population, and in addition to that, 1 out of every 100 people are diagnosed with celiac disease.  Celiac Disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intense and disrupts the absorption of nutrients from food.  People with celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten.  Gluten is found in food items such as wheat, barley, rye, etc.  When a person with celiac eats gluten, their immune systems begins to destroy their small intestine such that it will not be able to absorb any nutrients from the food being digested.

To ensure that the new Simple Servings station provides the safest allergen and gluten free foods, strict guidelines are being implemented in our dining hall.  There will never be any cross-contact with foods that are served at the other stations and the food that is served at Simple Servings.  There are separate areas in the dining hall for Simple Servings storage, prep and service.  All dining hall employees are carefully trained and aware about the procedures regarding Simple Servings.

Simple Servings is located where Exhibition used to be.  If you are looking for exhibition- don't fret! Exhibition is located directly across from Simple Servings, and is now called Food Lab.  Food Lab is a revamped exhibition, serving unique dishes with a story.  Whether it is increasing the amount of whole grains, or adding more veggies- there is always a reason behind what we serve at Food Lab!  And keep your eyes peeled- Food Lab is planning to provide cooking demonstrations to all students and staff!

We encourage everyone to check out Simple Servings.  Simple Servings caters to all different types of eaters, whether you are health conscience, gluten free, allergy free, or a picky eater- Simple Servings will have something to satisfy your needs. Explore and taste for yourself how great eating simply can be.
